Day Wave

Under his solo indie rock project Day Wave, California-based multi-instrumentalist Jackson Phillips has a proven consistency in forming pop rock jams, but on his latest single “Still Let You Down,” he learns that meeting someone’s expectations may not always be a good thing.

"This song is about a relationship falling apart, and owning up to all the mistakes I made,” Phillips tells Billboard. “I recorded the instrumental with my friend Isom [Innis of Foster the People] back in February and ended up adding the vocals a couple of months later. Something about this song just stuck with me, and I'm super happy to finally be able to share it."

The collaboration with Innis leaves a lasting impression on his sound as the track moves with a whole-hearted urgency, invoking Phillips’ regret layered with an inviting reassurance. The single is the first release following Day Wave’s debut album The Days We Had in 2017 and builds on the tight, accessible rock set with harmonious pop hooks and a grungier, lived-in feel.

Though Phillips seems to be setting himself up for disappointment, “Still Let You Down” proves to be the exact opposite.
