Alt-rock quartet Tokyo Police Club are going for a full reboot on their upcoming semi-self-titled fourth album TPC, set to drop on Oct. 5 via Dine Alone Records.

The album brings a new perspective and revitalized sound as the indie darlings celebrate the tenth anniversary of their breakthrough debut Elephant Shell and return from a four year absence since their last studio album, 2014’s Forcefield. The gap tested the band both collectively and individually but has also wrought a fresh vibrancy to their material.

“I think for a long time I had this dumb idea that ‘making art’ had to be serious or difficult, that I had to really struggle with it for it to count, whatever that even means,” keyboardist Graham Wright tells Billboard. “The idea that not only could I have fun and make good music, but that having fun made the music better was like finding out that Santa's real.”

The first track from the new album “Hercules” proves they’ve discovered something special with hooks that are stronger than ever and a loose and lively mix that perfectly represents getting the band back together. For the band, it represents a crucial piece of the new project.

“‘Hercules’ is a special one because it sounds like how making this record felt to me,” Graham says. “When [guitarist Josh Hook] and I were in the live room recording the guitars, it felt like a party the whole time. So I’m really happy that the sound of that party gets to be audible to everyone else on this one.”

The track teases a fun and accessible side to the band that is sure to keep the party going throughout the summer, while the band is set to continue the good vibes into the Fall with a set of North American tour dates, available on their website here and listed below the jump.
