Florence + the Machine Drop Moody, Undulating Video for 'Sky Full of Song': Watch

Florence + the Machine unveiled a monochromatic, textural video for their new single “Sky Full of Song” on Thursday morning (Apr. 12) as a precursor to a new album due later this year.

Directed by AG Roja and starring the band's frontwoman Florence Welch, the video also precedes a Record Store Day exclusive 7” of the song. "This was a song that just fell out of the sky fully formed. Sometimes when you are performing you get so high, it’s hard to know how to come down," Welch said in a statement accompanying the visual. "There is this feeling of being cracked open, rushing endlessly outwards and upwards, and wanting somebody to hold you still, bring you back to yourself. It’s an incredible, celestial, but somehow lonely feeling.”

Welch spends most of the somber black and white video lying on a floor and crouching with a bowl, as organic-looking, abstract imagery takes over. It's all slow as molasses and solemnly minimal, just like the torch song it accompanies. If this striking and stark material is a harbinger of things to come, then Florence + the Machine’s as-yet-untitled fourth album should be a scintillating arrow forward for the celebrated group.
