Say Sue Me Premieres New Single 'After Falling Asleep' Ahead of Sophomore Album

"When We Were Together" drops on April 13.

Fresh off three strong South By Southwest sets and with a growing buzz surrounding their jangly single, “Old Town,” Korean indie quartet Say Sue Me is on the up-and-up -- and they’re only going higher.

Now, Billboard is exclusively premiering the band’s second single off their upcoming sophomore record, When We Were Together.

“After Falling Asleep” channels the wailing guitar work of My Bloody Valentine while pairing Sumi Choi’s introspective vocals with bombastic instrumentation. The sonic dreamscape is met with a lyrical one, and she navigates both without shying away from deeply personal thoughts.

“It's about when I go to sleep and then I felt like I could be another person,” she says of the track. “Before I sleep, I feel good because I could be another person.” She adds that the song is a “little bit sad” because it comes from a place of having no self-confidence: “At the end, I don't want to be outside of the dream.”

The Busan-bred band often writes lyrics in English, but guitarist Kim Byungkyu pushed lead singer Choi to write Korean lyrics for "After Falling Asleep." “We felt like we have to do that,” Choi says. “Making English songs is good for abroad fans but not good for Korean fans… I think Korean people don't know about us still. We are in Korea, so we want to be famous or popular in Korea.”

When We Were Together was recorded in Seoul over the course of two weeks, and it was the first time the band left Busan to cut an entire album. When We Were Together drops on April 13.
