MGMT Perform 'Me and Michael' Through Smoke and Distortions on 'The Late Show': Watch
Evoking the vibe of a psychedelic 1970S TV performance, the men of MGMT returned to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday night (Feb. 26) to play their new single (“Me and Michael”) and one of their all-time classics (“Electric Feel.”)
Performing through a fog of pink smoke and intentional screen distortions underneath a giant disco ball, singer Andrew Vanwyngarden showed his vocal prowess on “Me and Michael,” the synth-heavy, funky cut off of their latest album Little Dark Age.
The band also performed an extra song for online viewers, with Colbert explaining in the intro that while bands have always played an extra song on his show, before now he couldn't share it with anyone outside the studio because the show didn't have enough funds for the songs’ rights. With added help on brass from Colbert’s in-house band Jon Batiste and Stay Human, MGMT performed their woozy breakout hit “Electric Feel.” The song was originally on 2007’s Oracular Spectacular, the duo's breakout album.
