Rebelution

Reggae-influenced group Rebelution are on the upswing, lifting the hearts and spirits of many all over the world through their music with acoustic, R&B, jazz and rock influences.

The band has impacted the Billboard 200 on four occasions, including a top 40 peak for their most recent album, Falling into Place, voted as one of the best reggae albums of 2016. The set also earned Rebelution their first Grammy nomination, for best reggae album.

They're back with "Celebrate," the opening single from their upcoming album release. "Celebrate" has one key message: "You're one of us.”

As the band hit the road for live dates, the bandmates heard stories from fans on the impact their music made in their lives, helping them through health struggles and grievances.

Frontman Eric Rachmany hopes people feel encouraged and positive while listening to the song, which Billboard exclusively premieres today. “I want them to stand tall and stand proud and think positively because no matter what, things can get better,” he tells Billboard. “I want people to play this song and feel good about their lives and who they are in their own skin. That’s what I want people to feel.”

His vocals are openhearted and receiving, while refreshingly paired with guitar strings and piano keys, making for a smooth sound. Paying homage to traditional dub reggae music, the song ends with a minute-long instrumental patch.

After the recent loss of a friend and former tour mate, Mike Eyia, the group plans to use the message of the song to grieve his loss.

“At the end of the day, life is a celebration and while it’s important to grieve it’s also important to recognize that life is worth living for. So, I definitely think this applies to anyone whose passed on or in remembrance of anybody, Mike too,” Rachmany says.

Rebelution's sixth studio album Free Rein is due out June 15. The group plans to release a new song from the album on the last Friday of every month, prior to its release. They are currently on their almost sold-out Winter Greens Tour with special guests Raging Fyah.

Rachmany says the band put a lot of time and effort into this album over the last two years. “It's definitely my favorite album we’ve ever done, by far,” Rachmany explains. "We had the pleasure of working with a couple producers (Don Corleon, Winta James) and the rest of the album was produced by ourselves. This album really came from the heart, we’re very proud of it.”

The band kicks their Free Rein tour with special guests Stephen Marley, Common Kings, Zion I and DJ Mackle this summer, starting June 22, hitting major cities such as Orlando, Baltimore, Philadelphia and more. Check out the dates below and purchase tickets here.
