New York punk bandleader Richard "Handsome Dick" Manitoba, 64, was reportedly arrested last week and charged for allegedly assaulting his longtime former domestic partner. According to the New York Daily News, police records show Manitoba was charged with choking 51 year-old ex-girlfriend Zoe Hansen, with whom he has a teenage son from their 16-year relationship. A spokesperson for the New York Police Department confirmed to Billboard that Manitoba was arrested at 10:15 a.m. on Friday (Feb. 2) on suspicion of attempted strangulation, assault and criminal mischief.

Manitoba faces three counts of third-degree assault and one count each of criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and second-degree harassment, according to the Daily News, which noted that the official police report on the incident included Hansen saying she was "crying, with tears streaming down her face and her body shaking" when officers arrived at the scene. She reportedly told police, "He bit me. He bit my nose. He grabbed my neck and applied pressure."

The arrest reportedly involved more than a dozen officers responding to the couple's apartment, which is a short walk from the bar the pair co-own on Avenue B called Manitoba's. The singer -- who was arraigned on Friday (Feb .2) and is due back in court on March 26 -- began hosting the "Handsome Dick Manitoba Radio Program" on Little Steven's Underground Garage channel in 2004 an abruptly stopped appearing in late January.

Manitoba offered no comment at press time.
