William Patrick Corgan Is Stepping Out of His Own Shadow on New Solo Album

William Patrick Corgan

William Patrick Corgan is reintroducing himself to the world, and he’s making every move to help distinguish himself from the Billy Corgan of the past. The GRAMMY-winning, alt-rock pioneer and celebrated frontman of The Smashing Pumpkins is gearing up for the release of his latest solo record Ogilala, due out Oct. 13 via BMG with a solo acoustic tour starting the day after its release in New York.

The new record offers a glimpse into the many different sides to Corgan, punctuated by the guidance of producer Rick Rubin who encouraged a more stripped-down sound than the dense layering that defined his work with the Pumpkins. The unique rollout also features the accompanying silent film Pillbox, which Corgan wrote and co-directed with longtime collaborator Linda Strawberry. The film recently premiered in London, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, and its trailer can be viewed below.

The release has been preceded by two singles: “Aeronaut” and “The Spaniards.” Both tracks feature sparse production that especially highlights Corgan’s inimitable voice. The tracks are just a tease of the new direction he is headed with Ogilala, but they are an assured sign that the full vision will feature some classic Corgan experimentation. Check out his latest offering “The Spaniards” below.

Those eager to see Corgan debut his new acoustic set need look no further as the acclaimed singer-songwriter is set to appear on Billboard’s Facebook Live series on Friday, Oct. 13 for an exclusive performance and interview at 2 p.m. EST. The stream will be available on Billboard’s Facebook page here.
