The Technicolors

The Technicolors are saving the sweet talk for the song in their video for latest single “Congratulations, You’re A Doll.” The Phoenix rock band takes their catchy, dance-worthy tune to the extreme with a seedy bar setting, knife fights, and an indulgent montage of property destruction.

However, there is a harmonious collaboration at work amid the fray. The band enlisted close friend Tucker Audie to direct, which -- as vocalist and guitarist Brennan Smiley puts it -- was a long time coming.

“He's my best friend, we grew up together in Arizona,” Smiley tells Billboard. “Since then we've gone our ways and kept in touch, chasing slightly paralleled dreams with the occasional run in -- he's been in LA, and I've been on the road -- but we've always talked about making something, and the stars aligned.”

Audie’s involvement could not have come at a better time. The Technicolors are preparing to release their debut record in July, which they will ultimately use to establish themselves and showcase what sets them apart. For the band, the video was the perfect opportunity to make a proper introduction.

“This tune, 'Congratulations, You're a Doll,' is a wild one, and in a lot of ways feels the most like us. We wanted someone who could capture that,” Smiley says. “[Audie] painted our work environment in a way that was so interesting and genuinely badass that when it came time to make it happen, there wasn't much to do but flip some tables and smash some bottles."

After a shoot like this, it is fortunate that there’s still something left for the album drop. The Technicolors’ new record Metaphysical will be released on July 7. Check out the video for “Congratulations, You’re A Doll” below.
