Father John Misty is no stranger to poetic irony but his new song "Pure Comedy" its video take it another level, as he rails against American hypocrisy at the highest level.

The song and its Matthew Daniel Siskin-directed video depict a tragedy of modern humanity with feeling of desperation. Intercutting news footage of President Donald Trump, infomercials, home videos and more with perverse pen-drawn illustrations, the absurdity is real: "This is what we've come to?" It might be funny, even, if it were not true.

Father John Misty's second studio album I Love You, Honeybear was released two years ago and if this "Pure Comedy" is any indication of how the recent presidential election has will inspire his art, fans are in for some superior songwriting.

"And how's this for irony, their idea of being free, is a prison of beliefs that they never ever have to leave," he sings.
