A Valley Son

Meet A Valley Son. The New York based rock band -- comprised of three Southern transplants (Trey Powell, Steve Bowen, and Nate Osborne) who grew up on Stax and Motown, and one Yonkers-born Gospel drummer turned bassist (Seth Nicholson) -- have come together to create a unique blend of Southern Gothic, harmony-laden soul-infused roots rock & roll, with the aim to craft honest songs that put emotion and raw musicianship at the forefront.

After dropping glorious early cuts "Lights in the Sky" and "In the Low Light of the Late Afternoon," the rockers today return with the title track off their forthcoming debut EP Sunset Park, premiering exclusively via Billboard.

"I wrote Sunset Park in the aftermath of Michael Brown's death in 2014. His death, and the divisive response upended my entire view on what America was and changed my understanding of the people in it. The lack of empathy and respect for his life, and, by extension, the lives of millions of Americans by huge swaths of the country was maddening," lead singer/songwriter Trey Powell tells Billboard. "Sunset Park was written to try to unpack for myself what was happening and to help find any kind of emotional solace in the things around me. It's a song about anger, dejection and, ultimately, hope for a more inclusive, peaceful and humane future."

A Valley Son will support the EP's release with dates in New York City and the midwest, returning with a full-length LP later this year.
