The always vocal and politically-charged Amanda Palmer is making headlines once more, as she famously did in 2013 when her Ted Talk "The Art of Asking" stirred mixed reactions. Recently, Palmer spoke at a press conference during the Woodford Folk festival in Queensland, Australia, in which she openly shared her thoughts on America's political landscape.

“It’s been a really scary time in America," she related. "I don’t know how it’s felt over here [in Australia] for the past few months, but it’s a total shit show over there. Especially if you’re an artist, a woman, a minority, gay -- anything but a rich white man -- it’s really very scary."

While such sentiments have been echoed by many, Palmer -- a self-described optimist -- continued to share her thoughts as to how president-elect Trump will have a positive impact on art, specifically punk rock.

"Donald Trump is going to make punk rock great again," Palmer said. "We’re all going to crawl down staircases into basements and speakeasies and make amazing satirically political art. If the political climate keeps getting uglier, the art will have to answer."

Palmer and her husband Neil Gaiman have just been granted five-year working visas for Australia, a process she says they started "long before the spectre of Donald Trump, before his orange head was even a speck on the horizon of our lives." Palmer added the reason for relocating was that the couple have a new baby and have been looking around the world at various political climates, art scenes and overall quality of life; though, she admitted to feeling guilty for not attending the Women's March on Washington on Jan. 20.

"I feel like I really should be there in Washington with the millions of other women who are going to give the giant finger to the orange man," she said. "But I’ll do what I can from over here.”
