Watch Metallica Rock Out New Song 'Atlas, Rise!' in Behind-the-Scenes Video
It’s Halloween, and the last day of October means we’re one day away from Release Month for the new Metallica album. Hardwired… To Self-Destruct -- their first studio album in eight years -- hits stores Nov. 18, and it’s a safe bet to log one of the forth quarter’s biggest sales debuts. On Monday (Oct. 31), they followed “Hardwired” and “Moth Into Flame” with the third offering from the new album, a six-and-a-half-minute rocker called “Atlas, Rise!”
If you ever wanted to catch Metallica in their loungewear, here’s your chance. The video finds the quartet and its production cohorts kicking around the studio, recording “Atlas, Rise!” and looking like they're having a good time doing it. So if you’re keen on their extensive gear collection or James Hetfield’s choice out of Metallica’s own shirts, this is for you. It’s a long one, deep in extended shred sessions, but it’s held together by a strong chorus that gets extra oomph out of Hetfield calling out the titular Greek legend.
“Atlas, Rise!” dropped at 3 p.m. ET but was made available a half-hour early to fans who picked up special Halloween masks at certain independent record stores over the past few days. It makes sense: Metallica served as 2016’s official Record Store Day ambassadors.
