Kobalt Music Group says a Redditor "falsified" images purporting to be from the company's database, while Trent Reznor tweets "Not true." after rumor surfaces.

In December, Trent Reznor previewed the new year by promising we’d hear from Nine Inch Nails in 2016. Reddit users took that promise and ran with it Wednesday, suggesting a new single called "Dive and Slam" will come out Sept. 16.

A Reddit user posted an image purportedly backing up the news, citing insider access to Kobalt Music Group’s internal database, and also said NIN's next album would be called Not True.

Kobalt Music Group, however, refuted the Redditor's claim on Thursday (Aug. 4), telling Billboard in a statement that the image posted to Reddit was fabricated and did not originate from the rights management and publishing company's database. "Kobalt Music dismisses any claims related to a recent hoax where falsified information and images of a fictitious Nine Inch Nails release were posted on the web," the statement reads. "As an established leader in both music and technology, Kobalt maintains the highest standards of security, integrity, and transparency in the industry."

Trent Reznor: New Nine Inch Nails Is Coming in 2016

Hours after the Reddit discourse began Wednesday, Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor tweeted out this brief message:

When contacted by Billboard, a Nine Inch Nails rep pointed us in the direction of Reznor's tweet.

Nine Inch Nails’ last album was 2013’s Hesitation Marks, released through Columbia, where NIN is still on the roster.
