Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional performs at FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island on June 26, 2015 in Chicago.

It's been a big week for emo and pop punk. First Brand New returned with a brand new track, then Blink-182 joined in and now Dashboard Confessional has released a new song -- the first in nearly seven years.

Dashboard Confessional's New Album Has a 'Loose Narrative Thread,' Says Chris Carrabba

Dashboard band leader Chris Carrabba shared a new song with a video of himself playing acoustic guitar and playing a song called "May." In it, he sings with the same sort of longing fans loved for years through the group's prime years in the aughts: "Every day you pull me just a litter closer to you/ 'Cause you're a dream and I'm a dreamer/ May, I've got a ring and it's fit for your finger."

Carrabba ended Dashboard's hiatus last year with a series of live dates and recently told Billboard he had between 30-40 songs ready for Dashboard's first new release since After The Ending in 2009.

After Taking Time To 'Rekindle,' Dashboard Confessional To Release Album

"I'm afraid to say and then start feeling like I need to fulfill expectations based on what I've said," he said. "But I'm pleased that there's an evident, cohesive nature to this album. It's not a rock opera or anything like that, but it's not just a thrown-together batch of songs. There's some loose narrative thread that's kind of floating through them and holding it together. I know a lot of people say 'Oh, this is the best thing I've ever done' all the time, just 'cause it's the next thing they've done. But I think this IS the best thing I've ever done."
