The rock band with a cult following cultish enough to have (along with Modest Mousenearly sold out Madison Square Garden two months in advance has finally delivered some long-awaited new music. Today (May 17), Brand New released a new song called “I Am a Nightmare.”

The track comes via the band’s own imprint, Procrastinate! Music Traitors. It’s their first entirely new song since last year’s “Mene.” If a new studio album is in the works (which is essentially always rumored amongst Brand New fans) it will be their first since 2009’s Daisy.

Brand New's Jesse Lacey Talks New Music, Possible Breakup

Hours after Amazon posted a 30 second-preview of "I Am a Nightmare" and its artwork, Brand New posted the complete version to YouTube. The song is far more spry and upbeat than most of Daisy; in fact, its insistent chorus brings to mind their 2003 album Deja Entendu, which earned them a gold record plaque. With the chorus of "I am a nightmare and you are a miracle," it sounds about as paranoid and angsty as… just about their entire catalog. Are we close to getting the first Brand New album in seven years? Stay tuned.
