Michael Stipe Set to Perform on 'The Tonight Show'

Michael Stipe will be returning to late-night television as a solo artist. The former frontman of R.E.M. (the band broke up in 2011) will appear as a musical guest on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show on Tuesday (March 29).

The show’s official website confirms that he is an upcoming guest. Rolling Stone reports that his last scheduled late-night TV appearance was The Colbert Report series finale in December 2014, when he took part in Stephen Colbert’s send-off.

Since R.E.M.’s breakup, Stipe has also served as an unexpected opening act at several Patti Smith concerts and performed “Losing My Religion” with Coldplay’s Chris Martin at the 12-12-12 benefit concert to raise funds for Hurricane Sandy survivors.
