Snider told Billboard that the lyrics of "Opening Statement" came from a variety of sources. “The words are from a physics class I just took, a Reagan speech I just read (his last), and notes I wrote a person who just rejected me," the frontman said via email. "Combined, I don’t know what they mean, but what I am hoping people hear is the melody and the feeling the band conjures up around it, so the words can mean whatever people want them to.”
The songs on Rest in Chaos are all based on poetry that Snider has written, with the lone exception being a career highlight for the band: Legendary tunesmith Guy Clark penned “The High Price of Inspiration,” also adding vocals and guitar work on the cut as well.
The album drew praise from critic Dave Marsh, who calls Rest in Chaos "one of the most well-sustained albums I’ve heard in years.” The album goes on sale May 13, with presale beginning now.
