On Tuesday, Chris Martin accompanied comedian Jimmy Fallon on piano as the Tonight Show host covered the Bowie classic. Though the Coldplay frontman let Fallon do all the singing, he had earlier appeared on the Howard Stern Show on March 16 to perform the song solo.

Given that "Life on Mars?" was one of Bowie's most recognizable songs, described by the rock icon as "a sensitive young girl's reaction to the media," it's no surprise that it has also been one of his most covered songs -- before and after his death.
