Sam Bettley, bassist for the popular U.K. metalcore band Asking Alexandria, says he is “lucky to be alive” after flipping over a van yesterday (March 17).

The 25-year-old musician (who now resides in California) broke the news on his personal Instagram account. Apparently, a blown tire caused Bettley’s vehicle to flip over. Bettley said although his possessions have been destroyed, he feels fortunate to walk away from the accident “without a scratch.”

The day before (March 16), Bettley indicated via Twitter that he was embarking on a long auto excursion. No word has been given on whether anyone else was on board, though it does not appear any other band members were involved.

The following day he tweeted, “15 hour drive. Let’s go.”

Asking Alexandria’s new studio album The Black is set to drop March 25 on Sumerian Records. It’s their fourth LP overall and follows 2013’s From Death to Destiny.

Here's to wishing Bettley a speedy recovery from whatever injuries he's endured and to hoping he gets his possessions back in order.
