Stryper's Michael Sweet Definitely Isn't Ted Cruz (Even If He Kind of Looks Like Him)

Over the past week, people like author Michael Boulerice began to spread an online joke suggesting Ted Cruz and Sweet are the same person. It started with this photo comparison, likening their facial features:


I'm not saying Ted Cruz might be the lead singer of Stryper. I'm saying he's DEFINITELY the lead singer of Stryper.

At first, Sweet jokingly played up to the meme via his official Twitter account:



But in recent days, the meme continued to gain momentum, to the point Sweet could not joke about it any longer. The Stryper frontman assured followers that even though Cruz is a devout Christian, he is not one and the same with the frontman of the 1980s’ preeminent Christian hair metal band:

Sweet would likely prefer to focus his energy on musical pursuits, like Stryper’s forthcoming 2016 tour and the solo album One Sided War he’s been hyping on his Facebook page

The whole Michael Sweet/Ted Cruz comparison came as a surprise. I don't see any resemblance but I'm certainly laughing at the whole thing going public and being the #1 trending story on Facebook! I do hope Ted is a Stryper fan and that he comes out to a show this year on tour. Maybe I'll have him up for a song so we can put this whole thing to rest.
