Thrash metal legends Megadeth invited their fans on an otherworldly virtual reality experience of their new album Dystopia. Now, they’re inviting Billboard on a behind-the-scenes look at the video shoot that brought five Dystopia-n tracks to life in 360-degree form.

Here’s the deal: the new album dropped Jan. 22 on Universal Music Enterprises/Tradecraft/T-Boy Records. Those who bought the deluxe edition scored virtual reality goggles and an access code to the virtual reality world. Below, get a backstage pass on how it all came together, featuring frontman Dave Mustaine, director Blair Underwood, and more:

“[There were] so many great reasons to do this, so many great reasons to have chosen [developer] Next Galaxy,” Mustaine tells Billboard. “Blair Underwood directing was an unexpected and welcome surprise. I am pumped how it turned out!”

Underwood (best known as an actor, who's currently recurring on ABC’s hit series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) directed the endeavor. “Dave Mustaine and legendary thrash metal band Megadeth were incredible to work with!” he tells Billboard. “They completely embraced the innovative and groundbreaking CEEK Virtual Reality technology and shooting in 360 degrees.”
