La Sera

Earlier this month, we named La Sera’s rollicking fourth album Music for Listening to Music To as one of our most anticipated alternative releases for 2016. Today (Jan. 26), we’ve got a new look at the fun one-time Vivian Girl Katy Goodman and bandmate/new husband Todd Wisenbaker have been getting into with their ever-evolving project.

We’re excited to present the music video for “High Notes,” the opening track from the new LP. It’s the first video from the new album cycle and it finds La Sera honing in on its twangy side. Goodman and Wisenbaker went for the 1960s country variety show look on this one, though it’s doubtful Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner ever got this weird.

“We filmed it at a warehouse in downtown L.A. in August, and it was hot -- like, over 100 degree hot,” Goodman tells Billboard. “We had to dry our faces with towels between every shot because we were so sweaty. The concept was developed by [director] Jason Lester. It grew from a straight up ‘60s Buck Owens vibe video into a monster mash" (wait for the monsters and aliens to arrive).

The country licks, slide guitar, and pump organs that make La Sera’s new tunes pop were captured in live-recorded, analog form by producer Ryan Adams. Wisenbaker collaborated with Adams on his famed Taylor Swift 1989 covers album, but their friendship simply refused to be limited to just one collection of expert-crafted guitar tones. And for Goodman, who has been sharing her songwriting with the world since Vivian Girls started in 2007, this sounds like her tightest work yet.
