While 2015 has been full of rumored releases from long-silent artists, one classic band just came out of nowhere with their first new song in three years. Just in time for Christmas, Green Day is back with "Xmas Time of the Year," a pleasant addition to the holiday rock n' roll canon.

The release comes with little more than that, though -- just a "happy holidays" tweet from the band and the rundown on its credits: "Words by Billie Joe Armstrong, music by Green Day, recorded by Chris Dugan" (he engineered their 2012 trio of albums -- the last new material from the band).

Could a 2016 album be in the works? Who knows! For now, just enjoy what ya got: a new Green Day song.
