Over the course of the past year, Metallica has slowly dropped hints about its long-awaited follow-up album to 2008’s Death Magnetic. It’s coming sooner or later, and though we still don’t have much to go on, Halloween weekend did bring us a brand new in-studio video featuring Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield.

On Oct. 30, Metallica shared the new teaser clip as an exclusive for members of their fan club. Ulrich opens the video hyping the band’s brand new website and then ventures into the studio, where Hetfield and producer Greg Fidelman are laying down some new tunes. It’s not much -- just a few seconds of riffs -- but hey, it’s something. Ulrich does close the video promising “more fun and games coming your way.”

Metallica Delivers Career-Spanning Performance at Lollapalooza

In an Oct. 2015 interview with EMGpickupsTV, Hetfield stated that Metallica was currently recording. In an April 2015 interview with Billboard, Kirk Hammett estimated the album was 25 to 30 percent finished.

Metallica has no upcoming tour dates (save for a Feb. 6 performance for CBS Radio in San Francisco), so perhaps that means they’re hunkering down for the new record? Expect to hear plenty of updates in the coming months.
