Just when you thought the "post-punk" tag was getting boring, here's a new song from the debut album of Publicist UK. No, the quartet is not from the U.K., and they're signed to a traditionally metal label without being especially metal.

The U.S. band does feature current and former members of Revocation, Municipal Waste, Freshkills, and Melt-Banana (amongst several others) who, in Publicist UK's early days, were spread out in Virginia, New York, New Jersey and Colorado. Melodic and quotable but also damn heavy (musically and lyrically), their debut album Forgive Yourself drops Aug. 21 on Relapse Records and figures to straddle genres just as much as they used to straddle state lines.

Check out the Heather Crank-directed video for a new track called "Away," premiering exclusively via Billboard:

"(Drummer) Dave (Witte) and (bassist) Brett (Bamberger)'s other bands (Burnt by the Sun, Revocation) have worked with Relapse, but the four of us have always loved and respected the label," guitarist David Obuchowski tells Billboard. "Especially with bands like True Widow, Nothing, and Zombi, the label's shown it's been unafraid to break away from the pure metal stuff."

Mastodon's Brent Hinds: 'I F---ing Hate Heavy Metal'

In the video, look out for the three-minute mark, where the post-punk moodiness and "Marr-influenced lead" is upset by a big ol' chugging riff. Obuchowski continues:

"I'm always looking for ways to offset these parts with contrast and dynamics, and so I suppose that's why that felt very organic to me. We never discuss where or when or if we should put heavy sections in the songs, though I do think that's a part of our sound: we like going there. I see the heavy, metal-like sections as part of a building intensity, and, again, one side of a broad spectrum we play on when we're creating dynamics and contrast. But none of it is ever discussed or curated. We're writing from instinct and feel and inspiration and all that."

And if you'd like a little more of that instinct and inspiration, check out this track -- it's called "Levitate the Pentagon" and features a spoken-word breakdown from vocalist Zachary Lipez that begins, "Now you're in a strip club in D.C. at three in the afternoon trying to convince some sad refugee that you're different."
