Dispatch Premieres 'Bound By Love' -- First New Song in Three Years (For a Good Cause!)
The breezy, feel-good jam benefits the fight against hunger in the U.S.
Feel-good rockers Dispatch are back with a new song, packed with Kumbaya spirit and sing along vibes. And even better, its attached to a campaign ready to raise awareness for a very worthy cause.
Introducing "Bound By Love," the long-running Boston band's first new track in three years and the musical companion to their Dispatch: Hunger campaign, which combats hunger in the United States.
"For the weak, for the strong, for the old, for the young, we are bound by love," goes the chorus. How did all those voices come together? Dispatch frontman Chad Stokes Urmston told Billboard that the song's fantastic harmonies were laid down at a studio called the Bakehouse in Melbourne, Australia:
"(Dispatch vocalist-guitarist) Bradley (Corrigan) egged me on while we were talking and said ask him if he knows anyone who could sing back up. We felt so lucky, in a world where it never seems like things just fall into place... There we were, almost like it was raining these wonderful people and spaces into our day and if we were open and grateful the magic would continue. With Bradley's melodic bass thumping along and Pete's deep pocket, I skank across the top of it and where there is room the girls (Nilusha Dassenaike and Kathy Hinch) voices swim their way in."
After that, it was a race against time to get the magic on recording without being late for their gig:
"We finished up the vocals the night we played our first headliner in Melbourne, literally singing the last harmony and running into a cab and then going directly on stage... the whole thing felt like a dream."
From now through the end of July, all proceeds from "Bound By Love" will support hunger initiatives, as the band has partnered with organizations like the Center for Hunger-Free Communities and Witnesses for Hunger, the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, No Kid Hungry, and WhyHunger.
Dispatch has also been using its live show to raise awareness for the cause. Its only two North American performances this year -- a pair of Madison Square Garden shows set for mid-July -- are also built around fundraising to fight hunger. On July 10th they'll play alongside Dr. Dog and on the next night, they'll play with the John Butler Trio. Check out the band's official website for more information.
