Hear Metric's New Song 'The Shade' From Upcoming Sixth Album

Rejoice, Canadian indie rock fans -- Metric is back with new music. Okay, it isn't just Canadians who love Metric, but they've been doing their country's rock scene well for more than a decade, and the Juno Award winners have got a new song.

It's called "The Shade," but there really isn't anything shady about this one -- it's an ebullient, synthy rocker straight from Metric's creative sweet spot, paired with some appropriately uplifting lyrics. It was recorded at the Beastie Boys' Oscilloscope Studios in New York City and at Metric's own Giant Studios in Toronto.

It's the first new track from Metric's forthcoming sixth studio album, which goes up for pre-order on June 6 and comes out in Sept. For now, though, they haven't yet shared a title or any other details.

They have, however, announced a bunch of new tour dates. Emily Haines and company will be touring arenas this summer with Imagine Dragons. Check out those dates here.

Metric's last album, 2012's Synthetica, won the 2013 Juno Award for alternative album of the year and earned producer James Shaw the prize for producer of the year.
