Even though it’s been more than three weeks since Lorde announced that her third album Solar Power is coming Aug. 20, only one single -- the album’s title track -- has been released so far. Devoted fans have been eager for more from the highly anticipated record, and on Monday (July 12), the New Zealand pop star shared details of the album’s beginning stages in a new email sent to those on her mailing list.
Lorde said that the night before the newsletter, she was up late scrolling through the Notes app on her iPhone. “Notes has become sort of this mythical zone for the modern songwriter...and it’s true — we are all writing every f---ing song using these two applications,” she joked. In the email were 11 screenshots dating back to 2018, some containing brief ideas for the album that would later become Solar Power.
“Record cicadas roaring in nz somewhere” she typed on Feb. 16, 2019. Then in March: “Make music that sounds like the sun, devotional.”
