Zayn's new duet with Ingrid Michaelson in the form of the moving "To Begin Again" gave girlfriend Gigi Hadid all the feels on Wednesday (March 17).

The model and mother of the couple's infant daughter, Khai, tweeted out her choked-up response hours after the ballad dropped, writing, "This song," along with an emoji with eyes welling up with tears, a heart and a planet Earth.

Though Michaelson revealed after the song dropped that she'd never actually met with or talked to Zayn while working on the track, he copped to being a big fan of hers and responding right away when the offer came in. "She had said she had a song that she already wrote that she might need a bit of help on, with a duet and I was like ‘cool send it over’ and we got it done," he said in an an interview with Radio.com.

The emotional track finds the pair singing about a reboot following a trying time. "When the world was ending/ We looked up at the sky/ And we talked about the last song that we’d play/ So far from comprehending/ They’d lift us to the stars/ Never seen each other from so far away," he sings on the second verse, which Michaelson said she immediately knew required another voice. "But then the sun came right back/ And the kids played as if nothing had happened/ And, it’s alright/ It’s OK/ We will get another day/ To begin again, to begin again, to begin again."

After a trying 2020 due to the COVID-19 lockdown, Zayn said he sensed right away that the song "speaks volumes to the way that people are feeling and it resonated with me and that’s why I wanted to be a part of it.” Malik added that he didn't expect anything less than excellence from his collab with Michaelson, "but it was better than that," he admitted. "It was better than what I expected... it hit the nail on the head."

As for what listeners take away from the tune, Zayn said he hopes they make their own personal connection with it while picking up on the positive message in Michaelson's lyrics about the sun rising again and the birds chirping for a new day. "Maybe we’ll get a new chance to, you know, start again, begin something fresh, something new," he said.
