Kelly Clarkson and her music director Jason Halbert perform a heart-stopping cover of "Lonely" by Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco on March 4, 2021 on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Kelly Clarkson totally knows how it feels to be swept up into the fame tornado at a young age. The now 38-year-old veteran singer was just 20 when she won American Idol in 2002, which changed her life overnight and turned her into a superstar.

And that is why it made perfect sense she covered "Lonely," former tween star Justin Bieber's moving chronicle of the isolating life at the top on Thursday's (March 4) edition of Kellyoke on her eponymous syndicated daily talk show. Accompanied by just piano, Clarkson kept it simple, imbuing the lyrics about acting like an "idiot kid" with a moving patina of grown-up emotion and heartache. Plus her yodeling was ... perfect.

It's been a week of longing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, with KC emoting through Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody," Lauryn Hill's rendition of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and Monday's swoony take on Ariana Grande's "Imagine."

Bieber's sixth studio album, Justice, is slated for release on March 19. The collection will feature "Lonely" (with Benny Blanco), as well as "Holy" (with Chance the Rapper), "Anyone" and "Hold On," which is due out on Friday (March 5).
