Joshua Bassett took to Instagram to congratulate Sabrina Carpenter on her new single "Skin," which dropped first thing Friday (Jan. 22).

"Been stuck in my head since i heard it!!!" the "Lie Lie Lie" singer wrote on his Instagram Story after sharing Carpenter's post with the single's cover art. "congratulations @sabrinacarpenter on 'skin,' the new label, & all that's to come!!!"

Carpenter recently signed to Island Records, and "Skin" marks her first release on the label.

Ever since Carpenter began teasing her latest single on Thursday, fans have speculated that it's a direct response to Olivia Rodrigo's No. 1 debut single "Drivers License," given the buzz around love-triangle rumors involving Carpenter, Rodrigo and her High School Musical: The Musical: The Series co-star Bassett. Fans believe Rodrigo, 17, alluded to Carpenter, 21, in this "Drivers License" lyric: "And you're probably with that blonde girl/ Who always made me doubt/ She's so much older than me/ She's everything I'm insecure about." And now they're connecting it to Carpenter's new lyric in "Skin": "Maybe you didn't mean it/ Maybe ‘blonde’ was the only rhyme."

Rodrigo addressed the speculation in her latest Billboard interview, ahead of the release of "Skin." "I totally understand people’s curiosity with the specifics of who the song’s about and what it’s about, but to me, that’s really the least important part of the song," she declared.
