Shawn Mendes has announced the first date of his upcoming "Wonder Residency" tour, which will find him performing at different theaters and clubs to help out venues shuttered by the coronavirus.

"I’ll be performing tomorrow on @fallontonight, live from The Palace Theater, 11:35/10:35c for #TheWonderResidency Pt I," wrote Mendes about his appearance on Tuesday night's (Oct. 27) Tonight Show.

"The first in a series of performances from different theaters and venues this album," he continued. "You can buy a limited edition poster, all proceeds benefiting @nivassoc in their efforts to save independent venues impacted by the pandemic."

Also on Tuesday morning, Mendes posted a wistful picture with girlfriend Camila Cabello -- rocking a Superman t-shirt -- in which the two stare into the distance from the comfort of a cozy kitchen. See the new pic here.

Independent music venues across the country have fallen into dire straits due to the again-surging COVID-19 pandemic, which has kept their doors shut for most of this year and could result in a mass round of permanent closures.

The National Independent Venues Association, a trade group formed earlier this year in response to the pandemic, says that nine out of 10 of its nearly 3,000 members will close their businesses by October without meaningful financial assistance from the federal government via the Save Our Stages Act.

Mendes recently released the video for the single "Wonder" and announced that the documentary Shawn Mendes: In Wonder, will premiere on Netflix on Nov. 23; the Wonder album is due out on Dec. 4. At press time Mendes has not announced any other dates on the residency tour.
