After an elaborate, monthlong trip down countless rabbit holes and confounding dead-ends, Stylers finally got their first long look at the fictional island of Eroda on Friday morning (Dec. 6) when Harry Styles revealed the epic fish-tale video for the first official Fine Line single "Adore You." The fantastical, seven-and-a-half-minute Dave Meyers-directed clip zooms in on the made-up island off the coast of England, where a magical marine animal teaches Harry about love, companionship and trust.
A soothing voice-over from fellow Columbia Records artist Rosalía -- who eagle-eyed fans noticed had liked an Eroda tweet earlier this week -- explains how the perpetually cloud-covered, frown-shaped island was forever suspended in a sulking, "resting fish face" funk until the birth of a "peculiar" child with a magical, golden glow. That child, of course, is Styles, whose sunny smile blinded and so confused the island natives that he decides to walk into the cold ocean to end his misery.
A funny thing happens on his way to oblivion, though. Just as he's filling his pockets with rocks, Harry discovers a golden fish stranded near the shore. "Loneliness is an ocean full of travelers trying to find their place in the world," Rosalía says over the beginning strains of the song. "But without friendship, we are all lost and left with no hope, no home, no harbor." And then Styles' vocals kick in and the new best friends' epic journey begins.
