The 13 Best Things That Happened In Music This Week: Oct. 11

Welcome to Billboard's weekly recap! Whether it's a newly released song or video, a viral moment or a big announcement, Billboard will have a round-up of the happenings across the music industry at the end of every week.

This October week featured a lot of #content. On social media, Post Malone kicked off “Hot Daddy Winter” with Drake, and Justin Bieber teased his highly anticipated album in an Instagram Live. And on television, the Jonas Brothers and SuperM created some hilarious moments on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, while Chance the Rapper tore up the latest edition of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show.

In between, The Eagles revealed an exciting tour for 2020, Shawn Mendes broke a record and Rosalia graced the cover of Billboard's Latin Power Players issue.

Check out some of the biggest music moments this week below.

Lizzo notched another week at No. 1, DaBaby earned his first No. 1 album

The updated Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 proved Lizzo and DaBaby victorious on Monday (Oct. 7), with Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” reigning for a sixth week on the Hot 100 and DaBaby’s Kirk debuting atop the all-albums chart. They both celebrated additional Hot 100 achievements (dated Oct. 12), as all 13 Kirk tracks charted and Lizzo’s “Good As Hell” became her second top 40 hit.

Shawn Mendes broke an Adult Pop Songs record (most No. 1s by a solo male)

Mendes’ steamy collab with real-life girlfriend Camila Cabello, “Señorita,” earned the Toronto native his sixth Adult Pop Songs No. 1 -- and a new record on the chart -- on Monday. His sixth chart-topper surpassed Ed Sheeran, Adele and Nickelback, who each have five. The latest No. 1 for “Señorita” marks Cabello’s third leader on the Adult Pop Songs chart.

Justin Bieber teased a sooner-than-later album release

Just one week after making his marriage to Hailey Bieber very official, Justin Bieber gave fans an unofficial (but very promising) update on his album: that it’s coming before 2020. In an Instagram live filmed by Hailey on Monday, Justin teased that an album will be out by the end of this year, with a new song coming “soon.” To make Beliebers even more eager, the singer -- who just released a heartfelt collab with country duo Dan + Shay --  took to Twitter hours later and revealed he “finished something very special in the studio.”

Drake and Post Malone made “Hot Daddy Winter” a thing

The rappers are ready to move on from Hot Girl Summer and create the next seasonal affair: Hot Daddy Winter. After Drake shared a pic with Posty on Instagram Monday to congratulate the “Wow” singer on his two sold-out shows in Toronto the week before, Post put up another photo of the pair with the caption "hot daddy winter pt2." Post wore a faded grey tie-dye shirt and sweatpants, with Drake sporting a shiny teal Nike windbreaker and jeans. Perhaps casual wear is the thing this winter?

The Jonas Brothers surprised a bunch of fans

What’s better than meeting the Jonas Brothers? Not knowing you were going to meet the Jonas Brothers. When the sibling trio appeared on Ellen on Monday to perform “Only Human” and reveal that Nick Jonas is the next new Voice coach, JB surprised some of their biggest fans backstage -- and, of course, the reactions were priceless.

The Eagles announced Hotel California Tour

Following three sold-out Las Vegas shows celebrating their iconic album Hotel California, The Eagles decided they aren’t done performing their 1976 classic. On Tuesday (Oct. 8), the rock legends announced a full Hotel California Tour for 2020, which will see the group hitting Atlanta, New York, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco and Inglewood, Calif., from Feb. 7 to April 18.

Halsey released her whimsical “Graveyard” video

Halsey teased a fantastical, carnival-themed video earlier in the week, and that’s exactly what she delivered promptly at 1:17 pm ET on Tuesday (Oct. 8). The four-minute visual features Halsey and Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, who happily prance around a vacant amusement park together. But it appears to all just be a dream, one that Halsey seemingly wants to live over again -- even if it breaks her heart.

Chance the Rapper (and James Corden) killed Carpool Karaoke

Chance became the latest star to drive around with James Corden on The Late Late Show on Tuesday night, dropping lines from "All Day Long” and “All Night,” as well as his verse on Ed Sheeran’s “Cross Me." He also chatted about his relationship with Barack Obama and Kanye West, and Corden proved Chance’s vegetable hatred with a hilarious taste test. But perhaps the best part for both viewers (and Chance) was that Corden kept up the entire time: “You’re so good at rapping fast, I did not know!” Chance told the host.

SuperM taught Ellen DeGeneres how to “jop”

Just days after SuperM made their debut with their first EP, SuperM – The 1st Mini Album, the K-pop group visited Ellen on Wednesday (Oct. 8), and they were super excited about it. “Mom, I’m on Ellen!” exclaimed Taeyong as the seven-piece group introduced themselves. The supergroup already has a signature move, “jopping” (jumping and popping at the same time), and they obviously had to show DeGeneres how to do it. See how she did:

Fans paid tribute to José José

Mexico sadly lost one of its famous crooners, José José, on Sept. 28, but the star’s spirit lived on with a touching fan memorial on Wednesday (Oct. 9). Thousands of people gathered for a tribute at Mexico City’s Palace of Fine Arts as well as a mass at one of Latin America’s most important Roman Catholic shrines, a bittersweet reminder of his importance to his home country and around the world.

Rosalía made her Billboard cover debut

Thanks to her fearless approach to her genre-bending, urban-inspired flamenco music, Rosalía is the face of Billboard’s 2019 Latin Power Players issue. Executives from Sony, YouTube and Universal Music Publishing Group spoke on why she’s the latest Spanish sensation, and of course Rosalía herself had a chat with Billboard about her rapid rise to stardom: “Everyone around me has maximum respect for my vision. Everything has been organic. I’m so happy I can make the music I want at any moment.”

Harry Styles' surprise return

Hazza is back with his first new music in two years! "Lights Up" might be a little off-the-beaten-path for people who loved him from his 1D days and followed him throughout his '70s-evoking Sign of the Times album, but it's inarguably an intriguing new, well, direction for him. Plus, the music video features Styles sans shirt showing off his ink and getting sweaty with boys and girls in Mexico.

Camila Cabello, Jojo, Hayley Kiyoko, 88rising & more dropped new tunes

The new releases from Camila Cabello seemingly aren’t stopping, as the “Señorita” songstress delivered a track called “Easy” just one week after the arrival of “Cry For Me.” But while the Camilizers are certainly happy, plenty of fan bases are also stoked Friday (Oct. 11), as new music arrives from CNCO, Hayley Kiyoko, 88rising, Blanco Brown and even pop vet Jojo. Billboard’s Jason Lipshutz runs through the latest and greatest in this week’s First Stream -- check it out here!
