Alt-pop singer Lauren Sanderson enjoys one last rendezvous with a former lover in her latest video for the song “Hotel Room,” which debuted on Friday (Sept. 27).

The Ariel Michelle-directed clip takes on an LGBTQ version of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” video, as Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl” serves as an inspiration to Sanderson in “her own awakening,” according to a press statement. It follows Sanderson and her ex-girlfriend exploring the cheap thrills of smoking gas station cigarettes and making out in the hotel pool. She dwells on the fleeting nature of the night and pours her insecurities into the lyrics: “I like you lots, babe, I’m a mess/ I be lying out of love when I’m feeling stressed…. I just wanna live fast tonight/ I just wanted to do you right.”

It’s an ode to what could have been and what can still be, seen from the hopeful shots of the sun pouring into the room while the two roll around the bed together juxtaposed with the wistful scenes of the women staring into each other's eyes in the empty bathtub in a blue-lit bathroom.

“Hotel Room” is the first single from Sanderson's forthcoming debut album, Midwest Kids Can Make It Big. The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native will be opening for Finneas on his first headlining Blood Harmony Tour this fall.
