Epic Records Signs New York Singer-Songwriter Rence: Exclusive

Epic Records has signed singer, songwriter and producer RenceBillboard can exclusively announce today (June 13). 

Born in D.C. and raised in Seattle, the 21-year-old artist is now based in Brooklyn after recently graduating from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. He finished school in three years all while bussing tables at night, working at a recording studio as well as multiple internships and producing and releasing music independently. Rence, known for his 2018 track "Baby Blue," makes music for the genre-less world, combining pop, R&B, and alternative all in one.

“Artists right now have more options than ever before," Rence tells Billboard. "My guiding principle through this process thus far -- and through life in general -- has been to trust in who I am, and who the people are that I’ve so carefully chosen to surround myself with. I’m honored to add Sylvia, Joey, and the Epic staff to that group and to my team." 

Rence flew to Los Angeles amid finals at NYU to meet with Epic, studying at his hotel before ultimately signing his deal.

"I’m beyond thrilled to welcome Rence to the Epic family," Joey Arbagey, Epic's evp A&R, tells Billboard of the latest addition to their roster. "From his unique, progressive sound to his super cool demeanor, I’m confident his raw talent will blow everyone’s mind as it has mine."

"Epic offered me a home where I could maintain the integrity of my vision and amplify it with their strength and experience," Rence adds.

The artist has an upcoming show at Baby's All Right in Brooklyn on July 24. Be on the lookout for his first Epic single, releasing on June 21.
