Takeover Tuesday Playlist: Tori Kelly's Favorite Stripped-Down Tunes From H.E.R., Harry Styles & More
The singer is currently on her Acoustic Sessions Tour.
Welcome back to Takeover Tuesday, where each week, Billboard taps chart-topping artists and tastemakers to compile their very own playlist exclusive to Billboard's Spotify account. We give the artists free rein to base the list on whatever subject they choose. The only rule? Make it as creative and unique to them as possible.
Just two weeks after Tori Kelly won a pair of Grammy Awards for her 2018 gospel album Hiding Place, the 26-year-old singer set out on her latest tour that's taking things back to where it all began: The Acoustic Sessions.
Kelly will stop through 26 cities around North America on her latest trek, performing stripped down renditions of her own hits, covers of classics, and some new tracks she's gearing up to release later this year. Naturally, as she's getting ready for the shows, she listens to other artists' acoustic tracks -- and she shared those with us in her Takeover Tuesday playlist.
“This is my pre-show playlist for my Acoustic Sessions Tour!" Kelly tells Billboard in a statement. "I chose some of my favorite songs that all have acoustic elements and just an overall good feel.”
The 24-song playlist features album cuts from Harry Styles ("Sweet Creature") and Shawn Mendes ("Where Were You in the Morning"), as well as familiar laid-back tunes from Matt Nathanson ("Come On Get Higher") and Coldplay ("Magic"). She also shouted out fellow 2019 Grammy recipients H.E.R. ("Best Part") and Leon Bridges ("River"), but seems to get most of her acoustic inspiration from John Mayer, who has seven tracks on the playlist including "Why Georgia" and a live version of "Neon."
