Billie Eilish Unveils Haunting Video for New Single 'bury a friend': Watch

Billie Eilish released the music video for her latest single “bury a friend” on Wednesday (Jan. 30). The new song arrives just one day after Eilish unveiled the cover art for her long-awaited debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?

In the video, the rising alt-pop star inhabits the role of the proverbial monster under the bed -- an idea that inspired the theme of the entire project.

"‘Bury a friend’ is literally from the perspective of the monster under my bed,” Eilish said in a press release. “If you put yourself in that mindset, what is this creature doing or feeling? I also confess that I’m this monster, because I’m my own worst enemy. I might be the monster under your bed too.”

The album's title is lifted directly from the song’s chorus, where Eilish darkly intones, “What do you want from me/ Why don’t you run from me/ What are you wondering/ What do you know/ Why aren’t you scared of me/ Why do you care for me/ When we all fall asleep, where do we go?”

The rest of the clip is equally terrifying, as a mob of hands clad in black rubber gloves manhandle Eilish, pulling the teenager’s hair and ripping her shirt before injecting her in the back with unmarked syringes. Later in the video, the singer creeps through flickering hallways and even levitates, seemingly possessed, before disappearing from underneath the bed.

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? is set to be released March 29 via Darkroom/Interscope Records.
