Halsey is on the cover of the new issue of Glamour and opened up about making her hit "Without Me" and her very public breakup with rapper G-Eazy for the cover story.

Though the pop star is known for putting her emotions out there and being very vulnerable, she stayed pretty tight-lipped about her breakup with G-Eazy. She admits she thought about the best way to address the news, even debating a live stream or a Twitter rant. The singer ultimately decided the best thing was to make a song about how she was feeling.

“The biggest lesson I learned was to make art, not headlines,” she told Glamour. “Because it can become quite easy, in the social media generation, to go from being a musician to becoming a personality.”

"Without Me" went on to become one of Halsey's biggest hits, topping the Billboard Hot 100 -- her first solo song to do so. It expresses how it feels to care about someone to such an extent that you end up losing yourself. Halsey's ability to be vulnerable and convey such a deep experience with a catchy pop song is what made "Without Me" so relatable.

“I call myself a collector; I collect things from people and use them to widen my artistic repertoire, so that I am writing from a culmination of experiences from the world,” she told Glamour. “But I’m an imitator as well, because I’m so passionately putting myself in other people’s shoes all the time.” She then added, “I beat myself up for a long time. I was like, You’re fucking spineless. Why do you have to become everyone you’re around? Why do you have to imitate all of their interests, all of their fucking mannerisms, and their personality? Why can’t you just know who the fuck you are and be strong in that? But I realized that will never happen. So instead I started surrounding myself with people I admire and really like.”
