Selena Gomez Praises the 'Much-Needed' Message of Her New Julia Michaels Duet 'Anxiety'

Selena Gomez took to Instagram on Thursday (Jan. 24) to share a post about her new collaboration with Julia Michaels “Anxiety," from Michaels' brand-new EP, Inner Monologue Part 1.

Gomez posted a throwback photo of her and Michaels embracing each other, accompanied by a thoughtful caption. “My sweet soul sister. Julia you have been a huge part of my life,” Gomez wrote. “You have taught me how to have courage when I have self doubt.”

Never one to shy away from speaking about her own struggles with mental health, the 26-year-old wrote about why the song has a special meaning to her as well. “This song is extremely close to my heart as I’ve experienced anxiety and know a lot of my friends do too. You’re never alone if you feel this way. The message is much needed and I really hope you guys like it!” Gomez wrote.

“Anxiety” is the opening track on Michaels’ Inner Monologue Part 1 and explores what it means to feel hopelessly anxious. “My friends, they wanna take me to the movies/ I tell them to fuck off, I'm holding hands with my depression/ And right when I think I've overcome it/ Anxiety starts kicking in to teach that shit a lesson,” Michaels' raspy voice opens the reflective-yet-upbeat tune.

“Feel like I'm always apologizing for feeling/ Like I'm out of my mind when I'm doing just fine/ And my exes will say that I'm hard to deal with/ And I admit it, it's true,” Gomez adds along the simplistic finger-snapping sounds.
