Get to Know 'Only One' Singer Carlie Hanson: Watch

In this week’s episode of “You Should Know,” Billboard is getting to know “Only One” singer Carlie Hanson, as she explains how she went from working at McDonald’s to capturing the attention of Taylor Swift.

Hanson, who grew up in La Crosse, Wisconsin, tells Billboard that her first ever job was working as a cashier at McDonald’s, but her big break came when she recorded a Zayn Malik cover song.

Trying to win tickets to one of Malik’s concerts, Hanson participated in a radio contest, posting a cover of “Pillowtalk.” After her submission was reposted by them, she says, some producers came across it and messaged her, asking if she wanted to work with them.

“I ended up going to Canada working with them and I made a bunch of music with them and eventually I met some songwriters, I met my manager, and here I am,” she says. “I'm at Billboard, playing shows. Here we are, man.”

Hanson also chats about how it felt to have Swift choose her song “Only One” to appear on her favorite songs playlist, revealing that it was her manager who informed her of the news. “I just went crazy,” Hanson recalls. “Like, Taylor Swift listened to my song? That just blows my mind.”

Asked what her biggest guilty pleasure is, the singer divulges that she loves Hot Cheetos and Arizona Tea. As for her biggest celebrity crushes, she notes that she likes Justin Bieber and she thinks that Lil Skies is “hot as hell.”
