'The song is about the new generation trying to figure out how love works,' says the star of Hulu's 'Holly Hobbie.'
At 14 years old, Ruby Jay may seem premature to have such strong theories about what love means, but that's the exact stigma the singer-actor is looking to disprove with her new single and video for "Young Love," premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Jan. 11).
From sharing a bike ride through the neighborhood to cozy bonfire hangouts with friends and gifting a scrapbook of your dates together, Ruby shows what "young love" means to her in a heartwarming visual that pairs nicely with the acoustic-leaning, feel-good pop gem.
"The song is about how I feel about young love," Jay tells Billboard of her latest single. "Love is fun, it's light hearted and, no matter your age, it's something everyone will feel at some point in their life. The song is about the new generation trying to figure out how love works. It can all be explained in the opening line of the song, 'They say we’re too young to understand love, but maybe they're too old to understand us.'"
