Britney Spears Taking Indefinite Hiatus After Her Dad 'Almost Died'

Britney Spears delivered some heartbreaking news Friday afternoon (Jan. 4), announcing on Instagram that her new Vegas show "Britney: Domination" will not be happening, as her father's health is ailing.

"It’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make," she wrote in a lengthy post along with a picture of her as a child with her parents. "A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand."

A release about the news says that "Britney: Domination" will be put on hold until further notice, but Spears gave refund information in her post, declaring, "I will not be performing my new show Domination."

Spears' father, Jamie, was rushed to the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas two months ago after his colon spontaneously ruptured. He was immediately admitted to surgery and spent the following 28 days in the hospital. He's expected to make a full recovery, but Britney is "dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family," as stated in the release.

Along with the Vegas residency, Spears announced an indefinite work hiatus to care for her father. She apologized to fans for the abrupt news in both her Instagram post and the release.

"I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart ... I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always."

"Britney: Domination" was set to launch Feb. 13. The other original dates were Feb 14, 16, 17, 20, 22, 23 and 27; March 1 and 2; May 8, 10, 11, 15, 17, 18, 22, 24, 25 and 26; July 24, 26, 27 and 31; and August 2, 3, 7, 9, 10, 14, 16, with the finale on the 17.

I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand. More information on ticket refunds is available on britneyspears.com. I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always.
