"Love you too friend ... Onward and upward," Perry responds after "mean" text messages are made public as part of Kesha's ongoing court battle with Dr. Luke.

On Friday (Nov. 30), Lady Gaga set the record straight on Twitter after text messages that she exchanged with Kesha about Katy Perry during her legal battle with Dr. Luke went public.

The text messages that Gaga and Kesha exchanged in 2016 were in reference to Kesha’s previous accusation that Perry was also raped by Dr. Luke. In one of her texts to Gaga, Kesha wrote that Perry "could bring the whole thing to a head but she won’t." Perry later denied that Dr. Luke ever sexually assaulted her in a 2017 deposition.

“She is probably really afraid to lose everything,” Gaga responded to Kesha. “U are really strong standing up to him, she’s not as strong as you yet.”

Kesha then texted, “your [sic] right. I need to find sympathy and empathy for her. she’s so mean. it’s hard,” and Gaga responded, “Do u want me to see if I can talk to her. I know she’s mean. … She makes me angry about shit I just try to have empathy for her.”

Following the publishing of their texts, which were released after Dr. Luke subpoenaed Gaga, the “Shallow” singer took to Twitter to address her relationship with Perry.

“@katyperry & I have grown up in the industry together,” Gaga tweeted. “We’ve gone through both celebrations & differences w/ each other. These are old texts. We’ve matured, gotten over the past, love each other & share deep respect. Katy is my friend and is truly a kind soul. End of story.”

Perry responded to Gaga's tweet, writing, "Love you too friend ... Onward and upward."

Kesha has been stuck in a vicious legal battle with Dr. Luke since 2014, when she accused him of sexual assault, as well as verbally and emotionally abusing her while he worked as her producer. Gaga has consistently been one of Kesha’s most vocal supporters during her ongoing court battle with Luke.
