Rising British indie rocker Isaac Gracie provides his own stunning take on The Strokes' “You Only Live Once,” premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Nov. 1).

Gracie’s cover,“You Only Live Once,” is a musing on the difficulties of overly critical relationships. In Gracie’s version of the song, he strips back the typically indie-rock song for a softer approach, featuring easygoing pop-rock guitar strokes and his own powerful, melancholy-tinged vocals.

“This is one of my favourite songs, and I’ve always wanted to cover it at some point,” Gracie tells Billboard. “It seemed to me that the lyrics are often overlooked, the story the song tells and the world it places you in is an immersive one. I love the stripped down adaptation they did called ‘I’ll try anything once,’ the lyrics and the narrative stand front and centre, so I think I wanted to bring the two versions together in some way.”

“You Only Live Once” follows the release of Gracie’s self-titled debut album earlier this year. The 23-year-old British singer will also embark on a headlining tour of the U.K. in November.
