Rising Australian Duo Pines Premieres Eerie, Nocturnal Dance Track 'Speak': Exclusive

David Evans

"This is definitely a track primed for a 3 a.m. dance floor."

Adam Dormand -- one half of Adelaide, Australia's PINES -- has reason to gush this way about his latest track in a recent conversation with Billboard

"Speak" oozes intrigue and allure with its downtempo, lockstep rhythm and hypnotic tunnel of sound. Dancing to this in the dead of night, you might feel like you're getting hit with a transmission from a dialogue you thought you'd buried in your mind a long time ago.

The new song follows PINES' previous 2018 singles, "I've Been Waiting" and "Glisten." Both of those tracks went to No. 1 on Hype Machine, as Dormand and bandmate James Kenneally enjoyed a breakthrough year of sorts that also included their U.S. debut performance at SXSW last March. They're planning to release their debut full length some time next year.

For now, they're focused on "Speak," the final third of this trio of singles planned for 2018. “'Speak' has been over a year in the making," Kenneally says. "From the outset we loved the dark nature of the bass line and the way that the melody and beat worked together."

Take a listen to the new track below, premiering exclusively on Billboard.
