Musical Guest Paul Simon in Studio 8H on Saturday, October 13, 2018.

Paul Simon has been a Saturday Night Live regular since the inception of the late night standard, having hosted the show himself (on its second-ever episode!) and hit the stage as the musical guest several times over the course of the 43 years.

Now, shortly following the wrap of his farewell tour in his native Queens, he's returned to SNL to perform one of his solo hits and a Simon & Garfunkel classic that brought a serious case of nostalgia to Studio 8H and viewers tuning in for his birthday performance.

The cast and crew of SNL presented him with a cake to surprise Simon when it came time for everyone to take a bow at the conclusion of the show, as Saturday (Oct. 13) marked the 77th birthday for the troubadour.

Before that, he performed "Can't Run But" off 1990's The Rhythm of the Saints and an exceptionally moving rendition of "Bridge Over Troubled Water," his 1970 ballad, S&G classic and one of the most successful singles of a career with plenty to choose from.

Watch Simon sing through "Can't Run But" and a brief clip of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" below.
