Au/Ra Undergoes an Unexpected Transformation in Glitchy 'Emoji' Video: Exclusive
Rising electro-pop singer Au/Ra has unveiled an unsettling video for her new single "Emoji," premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Oct. 15).
Directed by Sophia Ray, the stunning, sci-fi-esque visual follows Au/Ra as she dances around an all-pink bedroom, applying her makeup like a regular girl would, until she begins to discover an unruly secret about herself. The faint of heart should note that some skin-peeling is involved, but fans of Westworld will feel right at home.
Indeed, the video continues the young singer's theme of gruesome, twisted tales -- similar to "Panic Room," her previous single. “This music video has a core of dark and emotional sentiments. I love creating content like that, something with a plot twist that makes you think twice," the Ibiza-born, Antigua-bred singer tells Billboard in an emailed statement. "It was definitely a challenge for me to film this, but I'm so glad I pushed myself and became this character for the day. It was an amazing and emotional experience for me."
"Emoji" will appear on Au/Ra's upcoming EP X Games, set for release on Oct. 19.
