Aly Ryan Teams Up With YNW Melly For Electropop Bop 'Facetime': Exclusive

Pop up-and-comer Aly Ryan has been dropping promising projects for nearly a year now (starting with last November’s The Misfits EP) and on her brand new single "Facetime," premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Oct. 2), there’s reason to get amped along with that statement.

“This is my favorite track I’ve written so far,” beams Ryan in a recent exchange with Billboard.

Airy and assured, “Facetime” is a densely textured electropop ode to bedroom time in place of its tech-assisted alternative. “The record is 2018,” Ryan tells Billboard. “It’s real life; it’s what I go through; it's honest. That's all I can say.”

Ryan’s elegant voice sounds well at home here, on what just so happens to be her first track with a featured artist. Florida rapper YNW Melly lends his knack for sticky melodies on his guest verse, and what eventually turns into a cloudy duet with Ryan to close the song out.

“I’d been vibing his songs forever and ‘Facetime’ was the record I wanted him on,” Ryan says. “So I slid through his DM and asked for his email. Low-key, he killed the rap… I'm quite picky on collaborations but Melly brought the fire.”

For more on the L.A.-based Ryan, check out her past projects we’ve premiered here at Billboard: her 2018 single “Borrow Time” and last year’s EP, The Misfits. And if you're craving Melly’s unique ear for hooks and storytelling, check out “Virtual (Blue Balenciagas)” and “Murder On My Mind,” both off his 2018 full-length, I AM YOU. His latest project, the Collect Call EP, dropped back on Saturday (Sept. 29).
